Intel’s 3rd generation X25-M SSD detailed

Intel have been keeping details about their upcoming third generation X25 series SSDs tight, until today when some specifications about the refresh came to light. Since 2008, Intel has been using the X25-M product name for their consumer SSDs and this will continue with the third generation of drives.

The G3 X25-M (codenamed “Postville Refresh”) solid state slims down the MLC NAND chips from 34nm to 25nm bringing a variety of performance improvements with it. Sequential write speeds are up to 170 MB/s over the previous G2 models while the read speeds stay the same at 250 MB/s; random 4 KB read/write performance is also up to 50K/40K IOPS respectively.
