Toshiba Satellite A660 With WiDi Wireless Technology
Saturday, May 8th, 2010
Toshiba has launched their new portable laptop called the Satellite A660. The new range of Toshiba laptops ship with Intel processors (Core i3, i5, or i7) and include an Nvidia graphics card, a Blu-Ray drive, 802.11n WiFi technology and a generous 16-inch TruBrite LED display with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
What is most interesting about the new range is that one of the models will include the Intel Windows Display wireless technology. Abbreviated as WiDi, this new technology allows mobile users to beam digital information from their laptop screens to a big screen television, thereby allowing the TV to be used as a larger monitor.
In order to take advantage of WiDi technology, the TV must have a compatible WiDi adapter like the Netgear’s PTV1000 which can not only receive the signal but also convert it into an acceptable form. Currently, WiDi is still in its infancy and there are few TV sets that have a compatible card, so most mobile users may will not be able to take full advantage of this feature unless they are willing to invest a little more money. Over time though, we can expect that WiDi will grow and become more mainstream.
The Toshiba Satellite A660 will be available this June with pricing still to be confirmed.
