NTT Docomo’s separable phone
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Japan handsets are arguably the most interesting and advanced in the industry. While the rest of world are going gaga over integrated projectors or 12-megapixel cameras in mobiles, NTT Docomo’s separable phone seems a little surreal.
In its complete form, the handset looks like a bulky slider. But the display can be removed from the keypad for use as a normal touchscreen phone. But that is not the real magic. Using Bluetooth connection, the keypad unit can still be used to control the handset and even activate the camera for image capture. The display can be docked to a projector accessory base for presentations, while using the keyboard to control the phone functions.
Oh, did we forget to mention the camera has a whopping 12.2-megapixel camera resolution? Though this handset uses W-CDMA and GSM frequencies, it’s unlikely we’ll get to see it launched officially beyond Japan shores.
